About Us
OUR MISSION
Four Decades of Packaging Innovation
Founded in 1979 as the Wrangler Company, now known as PackGen, we emerged from UF Strainrite, a Maine-based filtration company founded by John H. Lapoint, Jr., father of our current owner. From the very beginning, our philosophy has been simple yet powerful: create lasting value for customers, teammates, and community by being “different by design” and market disruptors within the packaging industry.

PackGen was born from the needs of Strainrite’s filter customers, who sought a cost-effective, reliable means of transporting hazardous materials for disposal. What began as a single application quickly evolved into a robust product line serving the environmental market for shipping hazardous waste. Over time, our solutions expanded to handle a wide range of regulated and non-regulated materials, earning us a reputation as a leader in composite packaging across a wide range of industries.
As the originator of the “pop-up” container concept, PackGen pioneered advancements that met stringent UN composite packaging standards while raising the bar for the entire packaging industry. Today, we remain a global supplier of revolutionary, self-standing, pop-up style Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs) designed for safety, efficiency, and performance.
Our legacy of market disruption continues. We have expanded beyond our environmental and hazardous material roots into the food & beverage and non-hazardous liquid chemical markets with our innovative liquid tote product line. These solutions deliver the same hallmark PackGen benefits; lightweight handling, space efficiency, cost savings, and regulatory compliance, while meeting the demands of high-volume, quality-sensitive industries.
For over four decades, we’ve remained driven by innovation, trusted for quality, and focused on solutions that make our customers’ operations safer, smarter, and more efficient, no matter the market we serve.
At PackGen, sustainability isn’t an afterthought, it’s built into everything we do. We design our products to minimize environmental impact from day one, using smart materials and efficient processes that reduce waste and carbon emissions. And when a PackGen product reaches the end of its life, our recyclable materials can recovered and transformed into their most environmentally compatible state. It’s all part of our commitment to creating packaging solutions that protect what matters, your products, your people, and our planet.
At PackGen, innovation starts on our factory floor. We’ve pioneered a unique approach to manufacturing across all our product lines, designing and building proprietary equipment that integrates advanced robotics and automation. This engineered precision not only ensures consistent quality but also gives us the agility to compete in highly competitive, price-sensitive markets. By controlling our process from concept to completion, we deliver smarter, stronger, and more efficient packaging solutions that set new industry standards.
We are proud to be a family-owned business and a veteran employer. Every PackGen product is 100% American made – designed, engineered, and manufactured in the USA to the highest quality standards. We treat our customers, employees, and suppliers with the same respect, trust, and partnership we extent our own family, and we are honored to have team members who have served in our nation’s military. Continuing that tradition of service, we provide a workplace where veterans can thrive, grow, and lead.
